Sam Fender has handed over the full amount of his £25k honor prize money to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the Britain's independent concert spaces.

He was awarded the prize on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was named the best record of the last 12 months.

He has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the crucial part local spots played in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits smaller concert halls.

He also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous small stages across Britain.

These funds helped venues that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges arising from flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The concept that revenue from performances in big venues helps the independent spots, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has stated.

He is among several artists to donate his honor winnings to good deeds.

When Pulp received the trophy in the year 1996 for their record the album, frontman the singer announced that the act would donate their prize money to the organization the charity.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite split her award between a few charities, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also contributed a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed new equipment," Ms Dynamite told the media.

In recent years, the band gave their prize money to the youth organization that supported their act, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners the group gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"The victory was ample," stated vocalist Heather Small. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our success impacted somebody else's life."

In the past week, the trust announced it had saved two local spots in the South East, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in the city and the second in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is backed by the arts council and enthusiasts who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
