19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after that period of that year.

The win also means he has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

His defensive strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

He came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet defended 4 early break points in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
