Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
