"A household located in the northern part of London is looking for an extraordinary and skilled instructor to assist their most junior child on his first steps to becoming an English gentleman."
Looking at this post, you might readily skip the phrase "initial stages" as just figurative language.
Yet, it might be the crucial part of this unique position posting, as it seeks to hire a teacher for a 12-month-old.
Many of applications have already been submitted since the unidentified family posted their search for the highly paid tutor, who must be "an exceptional individual".
During the past few weeks, the listing has received interest across the news, with numerous wondering why?
Forward-Thinking Method
A tutoring expert, head and founder of Tutors International, which is helping the family in their search, explained that despite early skepticism, he considered the concept "far sighted", and "advanced".
When he consulted the family, he said they recognized the unconventional character of their requirement, and how early in age their son is.
Nevertheless, they explained that they "didn't want to wait any longer" to engage a tutor, as they had waited until their firstborn was five, and by that stage "cultural bias had already set in".
What exactly does the family mean by "cultural predisposition"?
It's "everything", he answered. "The manner you eat, the way you speak".
He stated the elder child had adopted "really subtle, unspoken signals" from the family, and had assumed their cultural habits. The family informed him they hoped to prevent history to recur with their younger child.
The plan: To hire a UK tutor, who must speak with standard English accent, to influence the baby from the very start.
Natural Absorption
"Much of the education at the beginning here is kind of absorbed naturally," explained the CEO.
It's via this natural absorption that the family are expecting the child will acquire the English characteristics they want to instil.
Adam noted the tutor must be somebody who attended "prestigious academies – comparable categories of schools as the family plan to send their son to".
"The tutor just has to be the appropriate candidate, they'll be carrying out things they may not realize they're doing, effortlessly," he added.
Money No Object
The family informed Adam the chosen tutor should preferably also have understanding of or interest in horse riding, skiing, artistic pursuits and musical activities so as to inspire the child in a diverse set of passions.
Additionally though, he said the family desired the tutor to enrol the child on a variety of courses so the child would be "equestrian training and starting an tool by the time they are about three years old".
In the family's minds, assisting their son grow into a "UK sophisticate" will bring about success and provide access.
"Considering the rights and wrongs of that, because it's definitely a social class indicator," he comments.
Yet, despite all this instruction in "English culture", could the child adopt so-called cultural influence from the international family he is raised by regardless?
"Yes", answered Adam. "The parents know this could fail, but they've simply adopted the perspective of, 'let's give it a go and we should start as quickly as we can', because the cost of it is not relevant," he said.
Impractical
There are some in the education sector who express these reservations.
Peter Cui, chief executive of Blue Education, who also offer individual instructors, commented that "the development of embracing two identities, or indeed, discovering oneself, is something that must be lived into, not designed."
The expert wrote that he had emigrated from Asia to the United Kingdom at the age of 7 years old, and had been raised experiencing and practicing both cultures. He progressed to be educated at a prestigious UK institution.
"The concept that one individual can serve as a embodiment of English culture, a person who can possibly transplant the attributes of a English gentleman to a infant child, appears naive and impractical," he wrote.
"In my experience, employing a quintessentially British tutor from infancy will not necessarily create the goal they desire.
"I did not have such a figure, and yet I have been privileged enough to experience numerous of the opportunities they aspire for their son."
He continued: "The reality is, cultural identity can not be imposed from the external environment; it must be chosen, and it must originate internally."
Purchasing UK Culture
Of course, UK identity is something Adam believes can be instructed – and sold.
"I believe the situation that the global community holds us in this respect is something that we should be cherishing|valuing|appreciating
